Writing your Colgate essay

By Jay Jacobs on July 27, 2012

Now is the time to start thinking about the essays for your Colgate application! This year’s Colgate supplemental essay question is, “We honor the many different forms of diversity in our community. Your perspective is valuable because it comes from your life experiences, family background, and culture. Please tell us about yourself, how you plan to share your perspective with the Colgate community, and what you hope to learn from other members of the community.”

You have 250 words to introduce yourself to our admission officers. We want to get to know you, the applicant, as best as possible through the combination of all your application materials. This essay should teach us something new about yourself and really bring out your personality. Coming to Colgate with an open mind and an eagerness to learn from your faculty, your peers, and the surrounding area is essential. Think about what YOU can offer to the Colgate community and why that is important. Tell us about that in a honest, accurate, and concise way!

Good luck as you start to write your supplemental essay for Colgate, and remember, the Common Application goes live on August 1 and can be found at www.commonapp.org. The Colgate supplement is already available here. Don’t hesitate to be in touch with us if you have any questions throughout the application process!
