“Minding the Gap” at 13 Bedford Place

By Contributing Writer on January 22, 2014

Danielle Iwata ’15, Jessica Muttitt ’15, Caitlin Sackrison ’15

This semester, we will be writing from our Colgate study group experience in London.  Appropriately, we are living at 13 Bedford Place in Bloomsbury in Central London, and will be posting about our travel, research projects, and other adventures!

Danielle is studying how ballet affected relations between England and the Soviet Union during the Cold War.

Jessica will be studying the change in doll manufacturing that occurred at the turn of the 20th century and what it meant in relation to the education of young girls in Britain at The National Archives at Kew Gardens, the Victoria and Albert Museum of Childhood at Bethel Green, the British Library, and the National Library of Scotland in Edinburgh.

Caitlin is studying the 1793 Siege of Toulon, during which the British Navy tried to reinstate the French monarchy in the southern port city. Her research will bring her to archives all around London and France.

We look forward to sharing our journey this semester with all of you! Cheers!
